Wisdom is a great wealth, precious
blessing, divine reward and God’s gift. Not everyone gets this wealth, but
Allah gives this wealth to whomever He wills. Many people attain a high
position of knowledge, ability and talent, but if they are deprived of the
wealth of wisdom and acumen, then their caste benefits the Ummah less and harms
it more. Therefore, in the court of God, the servant should keep on begging for
it and should keep on extending his hands in his court for His blessings.
I have met many people in my life who had
knowledge, intelligence, wealth, fame but no wisdom. I have also met people who
were also poets, writers but not intellectuals. I sometimes wonder what wisdom
is and how it comes. I think intelligence is innate. Knowledge can be learned
in school, college and university, but wisdom does not come from degrees. Wise
people study life.
They have opinions. They know the secrets
of life. They have rare insights into life. Their experiences and observations
guide them. I think wisdom is closely linked to loneliness, spending time with
oneself, contemplating life, and being free from wealth and fame.
My grandmother was illiterate but wise.
She was less talkative. She kept smiling. She never spoke harshly. Respected
children. She was an ocean of love.
I have seen in my life some illiterate
and ignorant people. Some were made arrogant by a little knowledge and some
were made narcissistic by a little art. Wise people are bent like fruit trees
so that people and properties can benefit from the fruits of their wisdom.
Instead of intimidating the people with their knowledge and intelligence, they
serve them because they consider the service of humanity as worship.
Wisdom is an art that is not found in
books. This art comes from the service of teachers, the closeness of elders and
the company of wise people. Wise people know the secrets of life. There is
depth and depth in their vision. Their vision is connected with insight. There
is stability in their personality, there is tolerance, and there is patience.
They know what to do and what not to do in life. That is why they make wise
decisions in life.
